ISO SURVEY 2020

In September, as every year, the International Organization for Standardization – ISO, published the results of the annual ISO SURVEY survey on the certificates for management systems issued in the previous year. This year’s edition includes data obtained from certification bodies for the entire 2020. However, the results are not a big surprise. In the case of ISO 9001 certificates issued in Poland, their number decreased compared to 2019 by 1241 from 11,460 in 2019 to 10,219 in 2020. It should be noted, however, that 2020 is a pandemic period characterized by very large drops in company turnover, cost cuts, and sometimes even bankruptcy. Not surprisingly, however, there have been significant increases in certificates issued for compliance with industry standards such as ISO 13485 and ISO 27001. A total of 319 units were issued for MDMS in 2020 in Poland, compared to 266 in 2019 or 227 in 2018. This is an increase compared to the previous year by over 20%, and compared to 2018 by 40%. For ISMS in 2020, a total of 710 was issued in Poland, compared to 652 in 2019 or 700 in 2018. Thus, an increase was recorded compared to the previous year by 9%, and compared to 2018 by less than 2%. Of course, in both of the above cases, the percentage increases result from the ratios of the smaller comparator base. Nevertheless, at least for ISO 13485, the increases are clear and significant.

So what are the conclusions of the presented survey results? The domestic market of management system certification services still has very good development prospects. In particular, this applies to industry standards for which there is a visible increase in interest.
